FALL 2010 PROGRAM
HUI LIANG & THE MAGIC BRUSH
A Chinese folktale
Retold by April Burns
This program will include the rich culture of Chinese poetry, brush painting, calligraphy, tai chi and the historical connection of China "The Middle Kingdom" and California "Gold Mountain".
Hui liang loves to make pictures.
She uses sticks to draw birds and fish in the sand
She uses wet reeds to paint mountains and waterfalls on rocks.
But Hui liang is not content.
She wants a real brush made of fine fox hair.
and brilliant inks to capture all the colors of her world.
Her grandfather is not a wealthy man but he is wise.
He knows the wish in his grand daughter's heart
as he fishes the jade green waters of the Li River.
He knows that in time her wish will come true.
Grandfather is keeping secret,
a hidden treasure for Hui liang
If used well this treasure will
save her village from famine,
bring Gold Mountain from far across the sea
tame a greedy emperor
and restore peace to the fishing village by the Li River.
